In reply to your despatch of yesterday regarding the appointment of Mr. Bouring, which I prepared on the subject, the Secretary of State desires me to inform you that the Surveyor General's duties have been performed by Mr. Jaquinot at a salary of £100 a year, in addition to his other office.

I doubt the disposition of the Governor to sanction this temporary appointment if he can help it.

You are requested to apply to let Mr. R. Bawson act as Foreman.

I am directed to request that you will inform the Governor of that Colony to report upon the necessity of retaining the services of an Officer of that description after the works now in progress shall have been completed.
